We check the washer to find the cause of the problem. Depending on the machine, the repair may involve the water valve, door gasket, drain pump, hose, lid switch, belt or motor coupling. We explain what we find and give you the repair price before work starts.

Washer Not Draining

A washer that will not drain can have something stuck in the drain pump. Coins, pencils, lint and anything else left in a pocket can work their way down and block it. Sometimes cleaning out the pump is the whole repair, with no new part and no new washer. If the pump is damaged, we replace it.

Check pockets before you start a load. A quarter or a pencil can poke a hole in the seal, get down to the pump and end up costing you $400.

Some customers have us clean out the pump once a year. That yearly pump cleanout is part of our annual appliance maintenance plan.

Washer Smells

Newer washers do not always drain completely. Over time the leftover water builds into scum and a smell, and your clothes stop smelling like the detergent. The buildup can sit where you cannot reach it without taking the washer apart.

We take the washer apart, find where the scum and smell are coming from, and scrub it out with bleach. We let it sit for a day, then come back and put the washer back together. It is a labor-only job with no parts, and we charge $250 for it. Not a lot of companies offer it, because it means taking the whole washer apart.

Washing Machine Repair for All Brands

Washer Door Seal Replacement

The rubber seal around a front-load washer door is also called a gasket or door boot. We replace damaged seals and check where a leak is coming from before recommending a replacement. Send the model number and a photo of the seal when you book.

Odor or discoloration alone does not mean the seal needs replacing. We can help determine whether cleaning or replacement makes sense.

Mold is different. If it keeps coming back after you clean the seal, it has grown into the rubber, and replacing the seal is the fix.

To keep mold from starting, here is what we do with our own front-load washer at home: run it empty with bleach, unplug it and let it soak overnight. Use bleach on its own, never mixed with another cleaner. We can walk you through it at the visit.

Odors in a top-load washer can come from buildup between the basket and the outer tub. Reaching it may require removing the basket so the tub can be cleaned properly.

Repair or Replace the Washer?

Some repairs involve replacing a valve, pump, hose or belt. A failed tub bearing can be a larger job, especially if the whole tub needs replacing. We explain the repair price and parts availability before you decide.

Age alone does not settle the question. If the part is no longer available or replacement makes more sense, we will tell you. We can also install the new washer.

Before the Appointment

If the washer is leaking, shut off the water to the machine if you can do so safely. When you call, tell us whether it is a top-load or front-load washer and when the problem happens: filling, washing, draining or spinning. Have the brand and model number ready if possible.
